A Water Cooler Trivia alternative with flat pricing
Water Cooler Trivia made async workplace quizzes a habit for a lot of Slack teams. Hijinks runs the same kind of round — plus live games, icebreakers and word games — on Slack, Discord and Telegram, for a flat price per organization.
Who Water Cooler Trivia is good for
Water Cooler Trivia is a focused product: a weekly quiz lands in Slack, Microsoft Teams or your inbox, everyone answers on their own time, and the results post back as a leaderboard, with the funniest wrong answers called out. The questions are written by its own trivia writers and graded leniently, and you pick the categories, difficulty and length. It can add a personalized category written for your team, extra quizzes on top of the weekly one, and an option to leave out US-centric questions. It is priced by the number of people who actually take part — tiers of up to 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250 active participants, with 25% off on annual billing and a four-week trial. If your team lives in Slack or Teams, and wants a polished, hand-written async quiz, it does that job well.
Where Hijinks differs
Flat price per organization
Hijinks does not count participants. Free is $0 for 10 games a day and up to 10 players per game; Pro is $5 a month for unlimited games and 50 players per game; Team is $15 a month for unlimited games, 200 players per game and the word games. Annual billing gives two months free. Nobody has to decide who is "active" enough to be worth paying for, and the Free tier is a real tier with every category open, not a trial that ends.
Discord and Telegram, not just Slack and Teams
Plenty of teams and communities run on Discord or Telegram, and most workplace trivia apps skip them. Hijinks runs the same games across Slack, Discord and Telegram, with Microsoft Teams planned after launch. See the Discord quiz bot guide for how the Discord side works.
Live rounds and async rounds
Async trivia works the way you would expect: the round posts to the channel and people answer in a DM before the deadline. On top of that, Hijinks runs live rounds with 30 seconds per question by default (adjustable from 15 to 60), and on Pro and Team you can schedule recurring rounds and a trivia of the day. Questions come from a shared question bank, and new questions on current events are added daily; those pass an automated sensitivity screen, and any it flags wait for human review. On Pro and Team you can also add your own questions with a CSV.
More than trivia
Icebreakers (Would You Rather, Hot Takes, Most Likely To), Small Talk prompts, word games on the Team plan (Wordle, Anagram, Hangman), True/False, Rebus, Charades and Pictionary, Celebrations for birthdays and anniversaries, Virtual Coffee 1:1 intros and Know Your Team — one bot, one bill. Our icebreaker questions page lists the full prompt bank.

Switching from Water Cooler Trivia
There is no automated export from Water Cooler Trivia into Hijinks, so plan on a clean start. Leaderboards begin at zero. Try the games on the Free tier alongside your current quiz for a couple of weeks; custom questions (imported by CSV) and scheduled rounds need Pro or Team, so move up a plan when you want to bring your own questions or keep a weekly cadence. Switch the channel over once people are answering. Hijinks is in private beta today: join the waitlist and we will tell you when your workspace can install it.
