A Trivia (Heron HR) alternative without per-user pricing

Who Trivia is good for

Trivia (trytrivia.co) covers a lot of ground on Slack and Microsoft Teams: live instant quizzes from a large bank, image quizzes, Pictionary, GIF Charades, Emoji Rebus, Hangman, True or False, self-paced and custom quizzes, a virtual water cooler, Unpopular Opinions polls, celebrations, VirtualCoffee and Know Your Team. It is priced per user in Trivia-enabled channels: Basic at $0 (up to 3 players per game), Standard at $1 per user a month (minimum $29) and Pro at $2 (minimum $49), with a 7-day Pro trial on Slack and Teams. It was built by Springworks and is now owned by Heron HR. If your team is on Slack or Teams and you are happy with a bill that scales with headcount, it is a full-featured option.

Where Hijinks differs

Flat per organization, not per user

Hijinks charges one price for the whole organization. Free is $0 for 10 games a day and up to 10 players per game; Pro is $5 a month for unlimited games and 50 players per game; Team is $15 a month for unlimited games, 200 players per game and the word games. Annual billing gives two months free. A 50-person team pays $5 or $15 a month instead of $50 to $100, and the bill does not move when someone new joins the channel.

Discord and Telegram too

Live and async, scheduled or on demand

Live rounds at 30 seconds per question by default (adjustable from 15 to 60), async rounds answered in a DM by a deadline, and on Pro and Team, scheduled recurring rounds and a trivia of the day. Questions come from a shared question bank, and new questions on current events are added daily; those pass an automated sensitivity screen, and any it flags wait for human review. Pro and Team add CSV import for your own questions. Leaderboards run weekly, monthly and all-time, with category champions.

The social features, plus Wordle and Anagram

Celebrations (birthdays and work anniversaries; birthdays are stored as month and day only), Virtual Coffee 1:1 intros, Know Your Team and Pictionary are all here, plus icebreakers (Would You Rather, Hot Takes, Most Likely To), Small Talk prompts, True/False, Rebus, Charades, and, on the Team plan, the word games Wordle, Anagram and Hangman. Switching from Trivia

There is no automated export from Trivia into Hijinks, so leaderboards start at zero. Try the games on the Free tier in a side channel. Custom questions (imported by CSV) and scheduled rounds need Pro or Team, so re-create your custom quizzes and your usual schedule there, and switch the main channel once people are answering. Hijinks is in private beta today; join the waitlist and we will tell you when your workspace can install it.
